Osprey Heritage Awards

E. Turner reviewed the current status of the Osprey Heritage Awards and noted that the key action items for this meeting were to finalize the dates for the nomination period and identify marketing items the Committee wanted to see. A. Hart said that he would like to see handout cards and posters that could be put in municipal and other public buildings. T. Barnett suggested that something could be put on the mobile City signs in different communities as well as on social media. I. McKechnie suggested a newspaper ad as well as something in the July edition of the Lindsay Advocate. E. Turner asked the Committee where it would like to focus its efforts for paper advertising so that staff had an idea of focus for ordering. A. Hart thought that there were too many handouts and not enough posters the last time the awards were run and suggested that there should be more posters to distribute to community spaces. T. Barnett suggested that community events that he and other committee members attended would be a great opportunity for both handouts and posters. The Committee discussed the awards launch for mid-June, depending on how long printing of materials took. T. Barnett asked how much time had been needed for lead time previously and the Committee agreed that it needed to extend beyond the summer months. The Committee decided that the nomination close would be September 15.

Hart's concerns regarding the exemptions as there needed to be appropriate consultation with regard to archaeology. A. Hart asked how it would impact the AMP and E. Turner replied that there would not be an impact on the AMP but there would be a potential impact on a site-by-site basis if the province chose to exempt a site from archaeology in future. T. Barnett suggested that the new policies might interact with MZOs, particularly as the province had also introduced the new Special Economic Zones and E. Turner noted that the province had not explicitly made that connection but they would likely go hand in hand.
