B. Condie advised that this is her last meeting as The Accessibility Officer for Kawartha Lakes. B. Condie extended her thanks to the members for their dedication and hardwork as volunteers for the Accessibility Advisory Committee. B. Condie advised she has been going through her files and organizing them. A couple of things in the development stages and are nearing completion. Prior to Covid the Public Spaces Working Group developed a Business Brochure. Notes are being generated for her successor. During Covid was not the right time to release the brochure, as the main topic was raising awareness on how important it is to make your business accessible and how profitable it is. Things such as the AccessNow which is an application that identifies the accessible features of their business. People with disabilities quite often will reference this app when visiting various communities, they wish to visit. B. Condie advised that the Senior Management Team are completing a final review of the pre-consultation resource piece. Once approved it will be moved forward to the Communications Team to release it into a final piece for Developers in the infancy stage of pre-design.

E. Peeters advised that the Accessibility Awards were presented on June 7th and were well received. We will now be looking towards the 2023 awards and its never too early to nominate individuals, groups, organizations and businesses that go above and beyond to make Kawartha Lakes more accessible. E. Peeters advised that D. Engelstad and herself had a preliminary meeting on a new project to produce awareness on what a disability is and what accessibility means. E. Peeters asked the Committee for any articles in the news or any videos they have received that we could adapt for City of Kawartha Lakes.

Council for Persons with Disabilities in Peterborough - First Ever "Capable Con"
Held Saturday, June 4, 2022

C. Morrissey provided that for Accessibility in the Media the Council for Persons with Disabilities in Peterborough just had an event on June 4th. They received some funding and it was a day long event with virtual reality pieces for people to experience some disabilities. The event was called "Capable Con" and they released some characters that highlight different disabilities. They are hoping this will be an annual event.  Here is the link to this event.

B. Condie provided that the pre-consultation piece has been the main focus and will be moving forward to a good copy and hopefully fewer comments from the Public Spaces Working Group will be required at the design stage. M. Porteous provided the Public Spaces Working Group committed to making a video and would like to have pictures of going off and off of sidewalks and involving the visually impaired and the signage that was done. M. Porteous advised she is now a member on the Active Transportation Master Plan Task Force and looks to bring forward the Accessibility Advisory Committee issues to that committee.

Councillor Elmslie advised that the presentations of the Accessibility Awards were presented at the June 7th Committee of the Whole Meeting. The new signage is starting to roll out for 40 is the new lower speed limit in urban areas. The speed limits are going from 50 to 40 and is important to make it safer for everyone to have slower traffic moving through towns. Council approved the new members for the Active Transportation Master Plan Task Force. The Health Unit recommends if you are in congregate settings and don't feel comfortable still continue mask wearing and washing your hands and using sanitizer. Council is still approving cell towers for Central and Eastern Ontario to reach 95% coverage
