8.3.1

Councillor Strangway congratulated Cindy Snider, Recruitment and Retention Coordinator for the Kawartha Lakes Health Care Initiative, on being awarded the federal 2017 Recruiter Recognition Award from the Canadian Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (CASPR).

Councillor O'Reilly made the following announcements:

  • The Rotary Club of Lindsay Rotanza 2017 will be held at the Lindsay Exhibition on May 12th at 6:00 p.m.
  • The Lindsay and District Chamber of Commerce Evening of Excellence Awards will be held May 26th at the Lakeview Arts Barn.
  • The 60th anniversary of the Kawartha Kavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps will be celebrated the weekend of May 26th to 27th. There will be a dinner and dance at the Victoria Park Armoury May 26th commencing at 7:00 p.m., a parade in downtown Lindsay on May 27th commencing at 11:00 a.m. and a field show at the athletic field at Central Senior School at 1:30 p.m.
  • Films on the Scugog opens for another season on May 9th with a 7:00 p.m. showing of Moonlight at the Academy Theatre.

8.3.2

Director Shanks advised that the City will be conducting work on the community cenotaphs in both Omemee and Bethany. In addition, phase 2 work on the City Hall envelope project will be done during the summer months, scaffolding will be erected and this will impact parking at City Hall. There will also be an extended closure of the pool at the Lindsay Recreation Complex from July to September to allow for capital project work to be completed.

Director Rojas stated that construction season is upon us and construction updates are available on the City website. He noted that repaving work near the bridge in Fenelon Falls is scheduled for May 15th during nighttime hours. Notices will be sent to local residents and businesses prior to work commencing.

CAO Taylor announced that the groundbreaking for the affordable housing project on Lindsay Street North in Lindsay took place May 1st. The project will provide additional affordable housing units and administration space for the City's Human Services Department.
