Call to Order

C. Morrissey called the meeting to order at 1:33 p.m.  J. McLean, C. Morrissey, E. Peeters, N. Price, J. Skelton, K. Van Den Oetelaar and Councillor Veale were in attendance. B. Condie, Accessibility Officer and S. O'Connell, Recording Secretary, were also in attendance.

Absent: S. Coupland, L. Dasilva, M. Fitzpatrick and S. Howard

Early Departure: Councillor Veale, 2:00 p.m.

  That the minutes of the Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting held on March 6, 2019, be adopted with the following amendment:

  That the 2019 Work Plan for the Kawartha Lakes Accessibility Advisory Committee be endorsed and forwarded to Council for consideration.

Committee Orientation

 S. O'Connell provided an overview of the Orientation Package for Committees of Council highlighting the following items:

• Revised Terms of Reference for the Kawartha Lakes Accessibility Advisory Committee
• The Council, Committee, Board and Task Force Policy, CP2018-017
• The Code of Conduct and Ethics - Members of Committees, Boards and Task Forces, CP2018-018
• The Insurance Waiver for Committee Members

The Committee was asked to review the Orientation Package and retain a copy for future reference. Committee members were asked to provide S. O'Connell with a signed copy of the Insurance Waiver for Committee Members.

News/Updates from Working Groups, Staff and Council

5.1

Accessibility Officer Update

B. Condie advised that the New Horizons for Seniors Program has been closed by the Province and the funds associated with the Grant that was tied to that Program have been spent.

Planning continues to be underway for the Accessibility Forum that will be held on October 23, 2019. Tickets will be available on September 1st.

5.2

Public Awareness (Public Education/Employment/Information&Communication)

E. Peeters advised that nominations for the 2019 Accessibility Awareness Recognition Awards have closed. The Working Group received eight (8) nominations for consideration. The nominations will be forwarded to Council for consideration once they have been reviewed by the Working Group.

5.3

Public Spaces (Parks, Built Environment and Transportation (Transit))

There was no report from the Public Spaces Working Group.

N. Price noted that the Ontario Renovates Program is open for applications and the Program includes a component for accessibility upgrades.

5.4

Councillor's Update

Councillor Veale advised that Council, being the reduced number of 8 Councillors and the Mayor, recently revised the council meeting schedule for 2019. In addition, the 2019 Budget has been adopted.

2019 Committee Meeting Dates

The Committee discussed options for the balance of the Committees 2019 Meetings.

It was determined to be ideal for Meetings to occur as follows:

• Wednesday, May 1st - Lower Level Boardroom, Lindsay Public Library
• Wednesday, September 4th - Lower Level Boardroom, Lindsay Public Library
• Wednesday, October 9th - Victoria Room, City Hall
• Wednesday, November 13th - Victoria Room, City Hall

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in the Lower Level Boardroom at the Lindsay Public Library.
