E. Turner called the meeting to order at 5:01 p.m. with the following members present Councillor R. Ashmore, A. Adare, A. Hart, J. Hartman, S. McCormack, I. McKechnie, W. Peel, T. Richards and S. Sims.

    That the minutes of the Municipal Heritage Committee meeting held on November 3, 2022, be adopted as circulated.

E. Turner called for nominations for the position of Chair. A. Adare nominated A. Hart. E. Turner called a second and final time for nominations for the position of chair. There were no additional nominations. A. Hart was acclaimed as Chair.

E. Turner called for nominations for the position of Vice Chair. A. Hart nominated J. Hartman. E. Turner called a second and final time for nominations for the position of Vice Chair. There were no additional nominations. J. Hartman was acclaimed as Vice Chair. 

There were no presentations or deputations.

Alteration Application - 21 Canal Street East, Bobcaygeon

The Committee reviewed the proposed alteration to 21 Canal Street East and agreed that the proposed addition of a new kitchenette would have limited impact on the heritage attributes of the property. The Committee agreed that the majority of the wainscoting should be retained and that which had to be removed used elsewhere in the building.

    That the proposed alteration be approved conditional on:

    • The retention of the wainscoting and existing wooden trim as practical
    • The use of retained wainscoting and trim elsewhere in the building

Municipal Heritage Committee Correspondence

The Committee received the correspondence prepared by the Ontario Heritage Act subcommittee regarding Bill 23.

There were no subcommittee reports. The Committee's subcommittees were dissolved with the end of the old Committee and will be reformed at the Committee's meeting in January.

E. Turner has received hard copies of Community Heritage Ontario News which she will scan and circulate to the Committee.

E. Turner provided an update on the Committee's orientation session on December 8 which will take place at the Lindsay Library.

The next meeting will be Thursday, January 12 at 5:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall (26 Francis Street, Lindsay).
