J. Garbutt called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. with the following members present Councillor R. Ashmore, A. Adare, D. Carroll,  and M. Sloboda.

Kawartha Lakes Municipal Heritage Committee Meeting Minutes of October 3, 2019

Presentation: Million Dollar Makeover Program and the CIP
Carlie Arbour

C. Arbour provided an overview for the committee of the Million Dollar Makeover Program in its first year, the program scope and its impact on heritage buildings. She also discussed next steps for 2020.

Doors Open 2019 Report

The Committee reviewed the report submitted by the Doors Open Committee which provided an overview of the event and attendance numbers. The Committee discussed best practices and ideas for next year to continue to build on this year's successes. Advertising was identified as an area to improve. A. Adare suggested that the event be coordinated with the Trail Towns Committees in the different communities in the municipality.

E. Turner reported that she will be having a meeting with representatives from the Doors Open Committee before the end of the year to discuss the way forward with next year's event. She will also establish the budget and bring a budgetary request to the committee's next meeting.

There was no report from the Heritage Designation Sub-committee.

The Committee reviewed the new edition the journal Ontario History.

KLMHC Representative for the Heritage Network

The Heritage Committee is entitled to a voting representative for the Kawartha Lakes Culture and Heritage Network. J. Garbutt has been undertaking this role but would like to step down.

M. Sloboda volunteered to take his place. J. Garbutt will continue to act as an alternate.

Adoption of the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada

The Committee discussed the Standards and Guidelines as a municipal standard for heritage preservation. Some of the committee members were not able to access the document for review prior to the meeting and would like additional time to review it and to discuss it at the December meeting.

E. Turner will arrange for hard copies to be made available for Committee members who would like them.

Listing Properties on the Heritage Register

The Committee reviewed a list of historic properties to assess their suitability for listing on the Heritage Register.

    That the Municipal Heritage Committee recommends that Council list certain properties on the Heritage Register as properties of cultural heritage value or interest.

The next meeting will be Thursday, December 5 at 4:00 p.m. in the Economic Development Boardroom at the Lindsay Service Centre (180 Kent Street West, Lindsay).
